International Women's Day 2025: Meet Kirsty Grey

06/03/2025

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we wanted to find out from the women who work in our industry what it is like to work in an environment that is predominantly male dominated.

Today, we spoke to Kirsty Grey, who works in IT as a Data Analyst.

Kirsty, tell us what motivated you to pursue a career in this field?

I’ve always been passionate about problem-solving and innovation, and technology offers endless opportunities to create, learn, and make an impact. The fast-paced nature of the industry and its ability to shape the future motivated me to pursue a career in Tech. Plus, I love the challenge of continuously evolving and improving my skills.

What challenges have you faced as a woman in a male-dominated industry?

I’ve been fortunate not to face these challenges personally, but I recognise that many women in male-dominated industries encounter biases, limited mentorship, and fewer growth opportunities, which can impact career progression and contribute to the gender pay gap.

What changes would you like to see in this industry to make it more inclusive for women?

I’d love to see more mentorship and leadership opportunities for women, equal pay, and better support for work-life balance, including flexible maternity leave. Creating a more inclusive culture where women’s voices are heard and valued would make a huge difference.

If you met your younger self for coffee, what would you say to her?

I would tell her to believe in herself, speak up with confidence, seek mentorship, advocate for your worth, and don’t hesitate to pursue opportunities—even if they feel out of reach. Challenges will arise, but resilience and perseverance will pave the way for success!

Finally, you’ve spoken about your role and the industry but how do you achieve work-life balance, what do you like to do in your spare time?

Having grown up in Peru, I love going back or travelling to new and interesting cultures and if I get the opportunity to practice my Spanish, then great! Other than that, I like to go to the gym and spend time with family, friends, and my playful puppy, Penny.
