Zentia shortlisted in two categories at the Made in North East Awards
Zentia, a market-leading manufacturer of ceiling solutions, has been shortlisted for two titles at the esteemed Made in North East Awards 2026: Manufacturer of the Year and Sustainable / Ethical Manufacturer Award.
Zentia produces high-performance mineral ceiling tiles, suspension grids and floating ceiling systems at its two factories in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. In 2025, the company celebrated more than 100 years of industry expertise, marking a century since first being registered in the UK in 1925.
Over the past year, Zentia has demonstrated outstanding manufacturing performance, with 99% of orders delivered on time and in full and a near-zero returns rate. Following its successful carve out from Armstrong Ceiling Solutions, the company has strengthened its position as a UK-focused manufacturer serving customers across the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Significant investment has underpinned this success. Since 2019, Zentia has committed £40 million to upgrading its Gateshead manufacturing facilities, with a further £4.5 million energy-efficiency project completed in 2025 to reduce energy usage and support greenhouse gas reduction goals. The company has also published Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) across all UK-manufactured tiles and grid systems, based on real-world manufacturing data from its Gateshead sites.
Innovation has remained central to growth, with multiple product launches over the qualifying period, including new acoustic systems, specialist ceiling solutions and expanded design-led ranges. Zentia’s Sonify range was recognised internationally with an iF Design Award 2025, competing against nearly 11,000 entries from 66 countries.
Beyond manufacturing excellence, Zentia continues to invest in people and partnerships across the North East. The award-winning Zentia Installation School has trained more than 10,000 construction industry professionals since the 1990s, while initiatives such as the Pinnacle by Zentia partnership scheme support contractors through training, recycling programmes and digital tools. The business was also recognised with a Silver Shared Value Award from Oasis Community Housing for its positive social impact across the region.
Commenting on the shortlist, Chris Taylor-Carr, Operations Director at Zentia said: “We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted for both Manufacturer of the Year and the Sustainable / Ethical Manufacturer Award. To be recognised not only for our manufacturing performance but also for our commitment to sustainable and responsible production is a huge achievement for our team in Gateshead.
“As a UK-focused ceiling manufacturer, we are committed to strengthening domestic supply chains, investing in our people and facilities, and ensuring our products meet the highest standards of performance and sustainability. This recognition reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire workforce.”
Employing nearly 200 people across the UK and Ireland, with the majority based in the North East, Zentia continues to align innovation, sustainability and regional investment to drive long-term growth.
The winners of the Made in North East Awards will be announced on Thursday 26th March at a black-tie ceremony taking place at the Hilton in Gateshead, Newcastle.
